- Quicken 3.0 Back Door
-
- Defeating the Quicken Password...
-
- Quicken stores the data in *.QDT files. The default is QDATA.QDT. You can password protect
- either the File or the Transaction. The password protected transaction prevents you from changing
- or deleting any transactions prior to a certain date. This generally does not affect our analysis, but
- the file password prevents us from accessing the file through Quicken.
-
- The simple fix is using a copy of the *.QDT file (NEVER TRY IT ON THE ORIGINAL). Use
- your favorite editor (mine is Norton's Disk Editor) and zero out the offsets 445, 446, 447 (Change
- whatever hex value is there to "00 00 00" ). If you don't know what the hex is, refer to your notes
- from Roland Lascola's Presentations on hexadecimal numbers. Otherwise, check any good text on
- DOS for a refresher in hex math. Now go back to your copy of Quicken and the password should
- be gone.
